Effective April 1, 2007, the new Health Professions Act requires that all Pharmacists registered on the Alberta Clinical Register must provide evidence that they hold personal Professional Errors & Omissions Insurance coverage in the name of the individual Pharmacist. Coverage must be transportable and apply wherever they may practice pharmacy in Alberta.

Highlights of Coverage
- Personal and portable Malpractice Liability Insurance coverage with a limit of $2,000,000 or $5,000,000
- $175 premium for $2,000,000., $400 for $5,000,000 limit of liability
- The definition of Insured includes indemnification for students and interns working under the supervision of a clinical pharmacist and will extend coverage to a retired certificate holder.
- Additional legal expense of $25,000 is provided when called upon to appear before a disciplinary committee.
- The definition of Insured Services will include “acting within the scope of the insured’s duties as a pharmacist” including the provision of opinions and counselling.
- The insurance will apply to claims arising from law suits in Canada and the United States.
- No membership fee is required to access this insurance program.
